Last night, my Man B and I went to the Roy Thomson Hall for the 30’ Christmas Service of the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC). It was a wonderful evening being with my Love and a great celebration of inclusiveness and openness. There were beautiful music by the MCC Christmas Choir, some sopranos and tenors and an orchestra. There were people from all walks of life. Pastor Jeff Rock welcomed all saying « all of you are welcome here at MCC Celebration - gays, lesbians, transgender, cisgender, 2-spirited, straight, bisexual, people from all races, and from all religious church and whatever name you call your God. ». During the 90s, I had the opportunity to go to the Sunday service of MCC. While it is inspired by Christian values, it is recognized for its inclusiveness and its stand for human rights and those who are in needs. Their vision is to create a just, kind and loving world for all. The MCC was founded 46 years ago.
Back to last night, there were politicians from all level. My boyfriend and I were privileged to sit by Olivia Chow, former Toronto City Counsellor and wife of the late Jack Layton. We had a short conversation with her before the celebration began. I felt very well to be there even though I have reservations about religions. I also had tears coming up when singing some of the hymns remembering childhood and other events in my life.
And above all, I was there with my Love Bruce holding hands openly.
Happy Holiday to all.
